The first task you need to accomplish is to gather the things that you need to make the latex mask. You need these basic items such as Prosthetic cream, oil and water based clays, latex gloves, slip latex and brushes. You can find these things at craft or even at hardware shops.
You need to spread the clays that you have at an armature which is a framework of a model for sculpture. This is where you’ll shape and mold your latex mask. Make sure to make the mask a little thicker because once the latex is added, the mixture will have the tendency to shrink a little. Don’t rush things. You need to make sure that the clay is bubble free because the moment the clay hardens you won’t have the chance to correct your mistake. The surface of the clay should be smooth and soft looking.
Once the clay is in place, you can now add the plaster to make sure that the mixture will stay in place. You need to extra meticulous in this step to be able to pour enough plaster on the clay but also taking into account that the mold will not be attached on the armature. You need to do this so you can separate the mask to the model scale without breaking any part of the mask. Let the mixture dry completely. Once every part of the mixture has dried out, carefully separate the plaster in the clay and the armature.
You can now fill your mask with latex. So you won’t break or damage any part of your mask, simply rotate the mask slowly so the latex will be distributed equally. Also make certain that the latex is spread thickly. Let your project dry.
When your mixture with latex has dried out, you can start decorating your mask. You can paint or attach other details in your mask. And then, for the last time, let it dry. When your mask and its details are dry enough for you to wear then your mask is good to go.
